The Journey UP

Andrew S. Santiago
Senior Staff Nurse(8th Floor oncology- ms ward); Certified Preceptor

Its been 4 years seen i started working in Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang. At first no clear idea about the things to be encountered, being a novice nurse is really a scary and confusing, even though we have some clinical experiences its really a big differences in real settings that no clinical instructor is around to help and guide you, but its is important that we undergo this process, as being a novice im open with different comments and trials but because of this process i gained more knowledge and experiences that helped me to be more competent and skillful, its parrell with Benner theory, we have to be novice first to be able to achieve the higher learnings and position, we have to become low because if we started being expert we are no longer will be opened to progressions... as times passed by many patients comes and goes, they died and but majority went home with smiles and new hope.. i noticed the changes in me from the nurse being scary and nervous all the times now as a clinical preceptor training and molding new nurse and now training for a higher position as a charge nurse. Its a process that we must live in and with this process i grew and will grow more.
